2. India’s First-ever Woman Ambulance Driver appointed in Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu has appointed India’s first woman ambulance driver under a new initiative by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami.
- She is appointed for 118 emergency health transport services as a part to strengthen emergency services in the state.
- M Veeralakshmi was appointed driver newly launched ‘108’ ambulances in Tamil Nadu.

- Rajeev Kumar (1984 batch IAS officer) has assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner of India
- He retired as Finance Secretary in Feb 2020
- He was serving as the Chairman of Public Enterprises Selection Board till August 31, 2020
- He will succeed Ashok Lavasa, who has been appointed as ADB's Vice President
- Election Commission is an autonomous constitutional body for conducting election at national and state level

4. India’s First Female Cardiologist S. Padmavati Passes Away
- Renowned cardiologist Dr S Padmavati (103 year) passed away due to COVID-19 at National Heart Institute, Delhi
- She was the first female cardiologist of India and was known as ‘God Mother of Cardiology’.
- She founded All India Heart Foundation in 1962 and National Heart Institute in 1981
- She was honoured with Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology and FAMS.
- She was also awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1967 and Padma Vibhushan in 1992

6. PM announces September as ‘Nutrition Month’
- PM Narendra Modi has announced during ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme that the month of September will be observed as ‘Nutrition Month’ in India.
- During the nutrition month, food and nutrition quiz will be organized on MyGov portal and there will be a meme competition
- People are appealed to participate and motivate others too to take part in it.
- Under Poshan Abhiyaan, the month of September is already observed as Poshan Maah i.e. Nutrition month every year, since 2018.

7. NSO estimates India’s GDP to be reduced by 23.9% in Q1
- National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimate for the first quarter (April-June) Q1 of 2020-21 at both Constant and Current Prices.
- According to this, GDP at Constant (2011-12 base year) Prices in Q1 of 2020-21 is estimated at Rs 26.90 lakh crore showing contracted by 23.9% as compared to 5.2% growth in Q1 2019-20.
- GDP at Current Prices showed a contraction of 22.6%.

8. RBI Announces Measures to Foster Orderly Market Conditions
- RBI has announced measures to ensure the orderly functioning of financial markets in India which is affected by COVID-19
- Under this, RBI will conduct additional special open market operation involving purchase and sale of Government securities of about ₹20,000 crore in two tranches
- It will conduct term repo operations for an aggregate amount of ₹100,000 crore at floating rates to reduce pressures on the market.

9. S R Sarma assumes charge as Chief of Materiel of the Indian Navy
- Vice Admiral SR Sarma, AVSM, VSM took charge as the Chief of Materiel of Indian Navy
- The Admiral holds post-graduation degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IISc, Bengaluru and is a distinguished alumnus of Naval Higher Command Course.
- He succeeded GS Pabby.
- He has served onboard Indian Naval ships Vindhyagiri, Rana, Krishna, and Mysore in various capacities.
- He was recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal and Lt VK Jain Gold Medal in 1994

10. Govt gave nods for integrated cold chains infrastructure
- Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal gave its nod to 27 projects for development of integrated cold chains and value addition infrastructure under Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana
- It will generate direct and indirect employment for over 16,000 people benefiting 2,57,000 farmers.
- The 27 new projects will have total outlay of Rs 743 crore for the creation of modern, innovative infrastructure and effective cold chain facilities.

- Union Department of Fertilizers has organized Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September 2020.
- All Public Sector Units and organizations under the Department will participate in the Swachhta Abhiyan.
- Swachhta Pakhwada was launched to focus on the issues as well as practices of Swachhata by engaging GOI Ministries/Departments in their jurisdictions.

- Power Minister has launched pan-India Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) in electricity
- GTAM will reduce the burden on Renewable Energy-rich States and will increase the participants in the renewable energy sector.
- Transactions through GTAM will be bilateral in nature with clear identification of corresponding buyers and sellers boosting competitiveness and transparency
- GTAM contracts will allow additional avenues to the renewable energy generators for sale of energy
