1. CISF launches ‘Pension Corner’ app for retired personnels’
- Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched ‘Pension Corner’ app for its retired personnels
- The app has been developed as part of an e-office initiative introduced amid COVID-19 pandemic
- The app is available on web as well as Android platforms.
- It includes an SMS invitation system to keep pensioners connected to the CISF for important events happening along with in-built grievance redressal mechanism
- Job opportunities and benefits will be available on the app

2. Assam Govt to set up Skill University at Darrang district
- Assam Cabinet has approved Assam Skill Development University Bill allowing for setting up University at Mangaldoi in Darrang district, Assam
- It will be 1st ever Skill University in north eastern part over an area of 100-bigha plot
- Total cost of setting up skill University is estimated at Rs 900 crore with financial assistance from Asian Development Bank.
- Assam Govt has signed MoU with ITE Education Service, Singapore for training resource persons of this university.

3. World Victims of Enforced Disappearances Day being observed today
- International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is observed every year on August 30
- It was first observed in 2011
- It is celebrated to draw attention towards increase in enforced or involuntary disappearances of individuals including arrest, detention and unknown abduction across the world
- UN General Assembly adopted this day on 21 December 2010
- UN Secretary-General: António Guterres.

4. Dinesh Kumar Khara recommended as Chairman of SBI
- Dinesh Kumar Khara has been recommended for the post of chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) by Banks Board Bureau (BBB)
- He will be succeeding Rajnish Kumar.
- Prior to this, he was serving as the Managing Director of SBI since 2016
- He was serving as chief executive of SBI Funds Management Pvt Limited (SBIMF) before 2016
- BBB constituted in 2016 makes recommendations for the appointment of Chairperson in public sector banks (PSBs).

5. Defence Minister launches ‘Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana.’
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has launched ‘Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana’
- This scheme is a group life insurance scheme through Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) that will cover more than 10,000 employees in all 62 Cantonment Boards
- The insurance will cover event of unfortunate fatal calamity with an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakhs each.
- It will benefit permanent and contractual employees including doctors, paramedics and sanitation staff.

6. World Bank pauses ‘Doing Business’ report publication over data issue
- World Bank has stopped the publication of ‘Doing Business’ report due to data collection irregularities in the annual ranking of countries’ business and investment climates.
- The report ranks countries on business competitiveness but has pending investigation into a number of irregularities in its 2017 and 2019 surveys
- It will conduct a systematic review of data changes in the last 5 Doing Business reports
- It was last published in Oct 2019 in which India was ranked 63.

7. Punjab University wins prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy
- Punjab University has been Honoured with the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for the second consecutive year.
- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy is given to overall top performing University in Inter-University Tournaments.
- The award was presented virtually by President Ram Nath Kovind along with Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju on the occasion of National Sports Day on 29 August 2020.

- American actor Chadwick Boseman (43 years) passes away after battling cancer since past 4 years
- He became a global icon for his role as Black Panther in the hit Marvel superhero franchise.
- He made his Marvel superhero debut as T’Challa/Black Panther in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
- He then got his own stand-alone movie that was released in 2018, and broke box office records.
- He was also featured in movies: Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

- Former judge of the Supreme Court Justice AR Lakshmanan (78 years) has passed away due to age-related ailments in Tiruchy
- He served as the Supreme Court Judge from December 20, 2002 to March 21, 2007.
- He was appointed as the Chairman of the Eighteenth Law Commission of India after his retirement.
- Lakshmanan has served as judge at Madras High Court and Kerala High Court.
- He also served as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan High Courts.

10. Sri Lankan Test Cricketer Tharanga Paranavitana announces retirement
- Sri Lankan Test cricketer Tharanga Paranavitana (38 years) has announced his retirement from international cricket.
- He played as an opening batsman and an off-break bowler.
- He made his international debut in a Test match for Sri Lanka against Pakistan in February 2009
- He played his last international against New Zealand in November 2012
- He appeared in a total of 32 matches for Sri Lanka with 1,793 runs at an average of 41.94.
